Five years ago Lithium was a premium upgrade. Today every Breezy EV ships Lithium standard — because the math finally caught up. Buy it once, get 8-12 years out of it, get 30-50% more range every charge, and never check water levels again.

The Lithium packs we install — Bolt Energy and White Lightening's new line — are LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate), the safest and most stable Lithium chemistry. Same family as solar storage banks and grid backups, not the energy-dense Lithium-ion you'd find in a laptop.

When lead-acid still makes sense.

Lead-acid isn't dead — it's just not the default anymore. There are real cases where lead-acid is the right call:

  • Short-term ownership: if you're flipping the cart in 1-2 years, you won't see the Lithium ROI.
  • Light use: if the cart sits in the garage and only comes out for the occasional weekend, the longer Lithium lifespan doesn't help you as much.
  • Budget-first first cart: if the cart needs to fit a tight upfront number, lead-acid gets you on the road for less.

If any of those is you, lead-acid is fine — we install it, service it, and you'll get 3-5 good years before you decide between another lead-acid pack and a Lithium upgrade.

Which is cheaper, lithium or lead-acid?

Upfront, lead-acid is cheaper — a full lead-acid pack costs roughly $1,200-$1,800, vs. $3,500-$5,500 for an equivalent Lithium pack. Over the cart's lifetime, Lithium wins on total cost of ownership because you don't replace it every 3-5 years like you do with lead-acid.

How much longer does a Lithium battery last?

Lead-acid packs typically last 3-5 years with proper maintenance (watering, equalization charges). Lithium packs last 8-12 years with virtually no maintenance. Over the same 10-year window, you'd replace lead-acid 2-3 times — that math is what makes Lithium cheaper long-term.

Will Lithium really give me more range?

Yes — 30-50% more in real-world conditions. A new Breezy EV with the standard 48V/125Ah Lithium pack delivers 45-55 miles per charge. The same cart with comparable lead-acid would do 25-35 miles before voltage sag becomes noticeable.

Is the Lithium battery safer?

The cells we install — including the Bolt Energy and White Lightening lines — are LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate). LiFePO4 is the safest Lithium chemistry on the market, with a much higher thermal-runaway threshold than the Lithium-ion in laptops or EVs. They're more thermally stable than a lead-acid pack actually.

Can I upgrade my existing cart to Lithium?

Yes. We pull the lead-acid pack, install the Lithium pack and a compatible charger, and reprogram the controller for the Lithium voltage curve. Typical conversion: $3,500-$5,500 depending on the pack size. Most customers see the range boost on the first drive.

What about charging — does Lithium charge faster?

Yes. A flat-to-full charge on Lithium takes 4-6 hours vs. 8-10 hours for lead-acid. Lithium also accepts partial charges without damage — you can top up for 30 minutes between trips without shortening the battery life, which lead-acid hates.
